Psychologists focus on a child’s feelings, behaviours, and thinking skills. They help children understand emotions, build coping strategies, and manage behaviour at home, school, and in the community.
Psychologists also work closely with families to develop practical ways of supporting their child day to day, and are often the first step if a diagnosis is being explored.
Occupational Therapists focus on how environmental, emotional, sensory, and motor challenges affect a child’s ability to take part in everyday activities—like getting dressed, writing, playing with friends, or managing big feelings.
OTs work with families to create practical, hands-on strategies that build independence and make daily life more manageable and enjoyable.
Therapy Assistants focus on giving children extra opportunities to practise their therapy goals under the guidance of psychologists and OTs.
They support families with strategies in everyday settings—at home, school, or in the community—helping to make therapy more consistent, practical, and cost-effective, while keeping the main therapist central to planning and progress.
